How often does a piano need tuned?
A typical piano will need tuned at least once per year. If the piano is played intermittently (say a couple times a week) it is advisable to tune it twice per year. These timeframes cover the vast majority of pianos. Piano’s that are played consistently every day will need tuned much more frequently.
Most in-home pianos need tuned only once per year.
Did you Know?
Tuning a piano is a complex procedure. It combines both mechanical and mathematical knowledge as well as the artistic and musical ability of the tuner. A standard tuning will tune the piano to A440. If a piano is significantly below this pitch, (5 cents or more) a technique called a pitch raise needs to be done to help stabilize the tuning. Without a pitch raise, a severely out of tune piano will be difficult to get in tune and will be very unlikely to stay in tune over time.
How much does piano tuning cost?
- Standard Tuning: $175
- Pitch Raise: $40.
